About Jennifer
Growing up in Idaho, I came to love the familiar scent of the Amalgamated Sugar Beet Factory. To me, this was a scent that has always meant home. I watched I-84 evolve from a simple two-lane highway into what it is today, mirroring the growth of the community around it. Life in a small town gave me the freedom to play outside until the streetlights came on and the opportunity to build lifelong friendships. Most importantly, it shaped my vision of the kind of community I want to raise my own children in.
During my junior high years, my family relocated to Jackpot, Nevada, where I remained through high school graduation. Even then, Idaho never stopped being home. Every summer, I returned for camping and fishing trips with my extended family, strengthening my connection to the place I’ve always loved.
After high school, I enlisted in the U.S. Army as a diesel mechanic. My time in the Army allowed me to travel across the country and meet incredible people, but more importantly, it instilled in me the core values of loyalty, duty, respect, honor, integrity, personal courage, and selfless service. These principles have guided me throughout my life and continue to shape who I am today.
After completing my military service, I made the decision to return to Idaho to raise my daughters in the same kind of close-knit, supportive environment I experienced growing up.
Shortly after returning, I began my career with Canyon County, where I have now worked for over nineteen years. I started in the Records Department as a Customer Service Representative before moving into the Canyon County Crime Lab as an Evidence Custodian and Criminalist Assistant. In that role, I gained hands-on experience in evidence handling, collection and storage, processing techniques, and fingerprinting. This experience inspired me to pursue a Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice with an emphasis in Crime Scene Investigation from Kaplan University.
After approximately three years in the Crime Lab, I transitioned into the Canyon County Coroner’s Office, fulfilling a long-standing career goal. As a Deputy Coroner, I became deeply familiar with the responsibilities and inner workings of the office. I was trained to assist with autopsies and worked closely with law enforcement and other agencies, building strong professional relationships essential in this field. Over the past 17 years, I have continued to develop my passion for this work and a strong commitment to serving families during their most difficult times.
In 2015, I was forced to step away from my position in order support my daughters during a tragic period in our lives, after their father was severely wounded while serving in Afghanistan. Although that time meant leaving the Coroner’s Office, it reinforced my commitment to family, resilience, and service.
Even after leaving the office, I continued pursuing education in the medical field through the College of Western Idaho. My coursework included Anatomy & Physiology I and II, Medical Terminology, and completion of the Certified Nursing Assistant program. This further strengthened my understanding of the medical aspects of death investigation and enhanced the knowledge I gained during my time in the Coroner’s Office.
In addition to my hands-on experience, I am certified through the American Board of Medicolegal Death Investigators (ABMDI) and the International Association of Coroners and Medical Examiners (IACME). These professional credentials reflect my commitment to maintaining the highest standards in death investigation and continuing education in this field.
I am deeply grateful to everyone who has supported me throughout my career and multiple campaigns. It is an honor to have earned your trust and confidence. I remain committed to serving Canyon County with compassion, dignity, and respect, and to upholding the highest standards as your Coroner.
